Police are holding two men who attempted to inject a patient at a private hospital with unknown chemical in Kisii Town.

The men had approached a nurse on duty at the facility on June 3 and asked her to administer a chemical they had to the patient.

They told the nurse the chemical is a drug the patient needed to heal. Police were called to the scene and managed to arrest the two as they waited for the nurse to move.

They had promised to pay her handsomely for the mission. The two men, aged 19 were detained and a syringe labeled insulin was recovered from them.

Police said they had taken the contents for analysis to know what it has. This is after the hospital said they had the said insulin and the patient did not require the chemical to heal.

Police said they are investigating a case of conspiracy to murder.

Meanwhile, two suicide incidents were separately reported in Machakos and Kilifi.

In Machakos, police said the incident happened in Masinga area’s Tana Ranch. The body of Daniel Ngui, 82 was found hanging on a mango tree after suspected suicide.

The man had been working at the ranch and a note was found in his pocket requesting his body to be taken to his Mwala home.

In Kilifi’s Malindi area, one Neema Tsui, 40 died by suicide on a tree. Her body was found hanging on a tree long after she had died. The motive of the incident is yet to be known, police said.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise with at least two being reported daily. The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

There is a campaign to address the trend in the country.
