    He worked as a writer and director on The 11 O’Clock Show, a British sketch-comedy series that featured emerging talents like Ricky Gervais and Sacha Baron Cohen.

    His collaboration with Cohen continued on Da Ali G Show, where he helped create the iconic characters Ali G, Borat, and Brüno, directing and co-writing all 12 episodes of Ali G in da USAiii for HBO in 2003 and 2004.

    Bobin’s work on Flight of the Conchords, co-created with Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, further solidified his reputation.

    The HBO series, which he co-created, wrote, and directed, became a cult hit for its quirky humor and musical elements.

    Transitioning to film, Bobin directed The Muppets in 2011, a musical-comedy written by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller that revitalized the beloved franchise and became a critical and commercial success.

    He followed this with Muppets Most Wanted in 2014, which he also co-wrote, and Alice Through the Looking Glass in 2016, a sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

    Bobin’s versatility shone in his direction of Dora and the Lost City of Gold in 2019, a live-action adaptation of the Dora the Explorer series for Paramount Pictures.

    Beyond film, he has directed advertising campaigns for brands like Diet Coke and Lloyds TSB and served as an executive producer and director for Disney+’s The Mysterious Benedict Society, including its pilot episode.

    In 2021, Bobin was announced as the director and executive producer for Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, further expanding his portfolio in family-oriented storytelling.

    He was also in talks in 2020 to direct a remake of Clue and has been linked to projects like The Outlaws Scarlett & Browne with Phoebe Dynevor.

    Accolades

    In 2000, Bobin received a BAFTA nomination for Best Comedy Series for The 11 O’Clock Show, along with awards from the Royal Television Society and a Silver Rose from the Montreux Television Festival.

    His contributions to Da Ali G Show earned him Emmy nominations for Outstanding Writing and Directing in 2003 and 2005.

    For Flight of the Conchords, he received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Writing, Directing, and Original Music in 2008 and 2009, as well as an Outstanding Comedy Series nomination in 2009 as an executive producer.

    He also won a Writers Guild of America Award in 2007.

    Bobin’s directorial debut, The Muppets, won an Oscar for Best Original Song for “Man or Muppet,” written by Bret McKenzie, and earned Bobin a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer at the 66th British Academy Film Awards.
