An elderly man died on Monday morning within the precincts of the Bungoma Law Courts while waiting for his case to be heard before the Environment and Land Court.

According to the Judiciary, the man arrived at the court at around 9:00 AM, visibly unwell and in a weakened state.

He was brought to the court compound on a motorcycle, accompanied by family members.

Court officials said a Customer Care Officer issued him a Priority Card—a service extended to elderly persons, persons living with disabilities, expectant mothers, and the ill—to ensure they receive expedited court services and are not subjected to long waits.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, informed officials that he was waiting for his advocate to arrive.

He then chose to rest on the grass outside the court building, accompanied by his brothers.

A court official later returned to provide him with updates regarding his case, only to find him unresponsive.
Police were immediately alerted and responded to the scene. It was confirmed that the man had died.

His body was transported to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital Morgue after the scene was processed by law enforcement officers.

“The Judiciary extends its heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time,” said Judiciary spokesperson Paul Ndemo in the official statement.

The exact cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
