A 65-year-old woman was found dead after she had attacked and seriously wounded her three grandchildren in a village in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County.

The woman identified as Esther Wanjiku is believed to have died by suicide. The motive was not immediately known.

Neighbours said the incident happened on November 10, 2025 in the morning when the woman armed herself with an axe and a wooden stick. She then attacked her grandchildren aged 18, eight and nine leaving them with serious wounds

it was then that she is thought to have gone into her semi-permanent iron thatched house and hanged herself. Police said the body was found hanging on a truss with a rope tied around her neck.

The injured were admitted to North Kinangop (Ng’othi) Hospital for further treatment and examination while the body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending for postmortem.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

Villagers gathered at the scene as police arrived to process it and moved the body to the mortuary.

Police said on Tuesday the injured siblings were in a stable condition in hospital.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident where a boda boda rider was murdered and robbed of his motorcycle in Matutu, Borabu, Nyamira County.

The deceased identified as Reagan Nyamongo, 23 was found with injuries on his head and right ear in a thicket in the area.

The man had not been seen for five days until November 10, 2025 when the body was discovered.

Police said the assailants were targeting his newly acquired motorcycle and he is believed to have resisted the robbery leading to the murder.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Such incidents have been on the rise amid calls on victims to always cooperate with their attackers for their own safety.
