A suspected thug was shot and killed in a failed robbery in Nairobi’s Korogocho slums.
Police said they recovered a home-made pistol, a dagger and stolen mobile phone from the suspect.
The incident happened after a group had attacked a woman and robbed him of his mobile phone. This prompted the victims to raise an alarm which alerted the attention of the police on patrol.
The team responded there and managed to fatally shoot one suspect as his accomplices escaped on foot in the Friday night drama in Kisumu Ndogo area.
A man was injured in the drama and taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged, police said.
Police said another suspect was arrested in the drama while the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
The police say they have increased patrols in the city to address a surge in crime ahead of the festive season.
Elsewhere, police in Transmara, Narok County are investigating an incident where a gold dealer was shot and seriously wounded in a robbery incident.
The victim was confronted at Game Trading Centre on Friday night by gunmen who demanded he hands over gold he had.
This prompted a brief confrontation and shooting. He was shot in the forehead with the bullet grazing his face.
The gang grabbed the gold he had and an unknown amount of money. Police who visited the scene said they recovered three spent cartridges of 7.62×39 mm special.
The victim was admitted at a local hospital in a stable condition, police said.
The hunt on the suspects is ongoing, police said.
The area is among those with gold deposits and has been attracting many investors in the sector. This has also attracted criminals who have been terrorizing the dealers.
Police say they are taking measures to address the trend of attacks. Some of the dealers are attacked on the roads or their premises.
