Police in Kirinyaga County have launched investigations into the death of a pregnant woman whose body was found by the roadside along the Piai-Itangi Murram Road early Friday morning.
The deceased, identified as Catherine Njeru, was discovered with visible injuries to her head and hip, raising suspicion of foul play.
Kirinyaga County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers, led by the County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO), joined local Sub-County police investigators at the scene and commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
The Central Regional Police Command has also joined the investigation, with the Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO) working alongside the county team.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has been briefed on the incident and directed the Director of Criminal Investigations to expedite the probe and establish what happened to Njeru.
In a statement, NPS spokesman Muchiri Nyaga said the Service was committed to ensuring that those responsible for the death are identified and brought to justice.
“The NPS condoles with the family, relatives, and friends of the deceased and commits to expeditious and conclusive investigations,” Nyaga said.
Residents of Itangi have been urged to remain calm and avoid speculation as investigators work to piece together the circumstances leading to the woman’s death.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station or law enforcement officer.
Members of the public can also provide information through the emergency toll-free numbers 999 and 911, or anonymously through the DCI’s #FichuakwaDCI platform on 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp 0709 570 000.
