Two gold miners were killed after a shaft they were working on collapsed in Macalder, Migori County.
Two others were seriously injured in the December 16, 2025 incident, police and locals said.
The group was busy working on a shaft in the area when it collapsed and trapped them, police said.
This is the latest such incident to happen in the area amid calls for safety of miners in general.
Police said one of the deceased was a Tanzanian who was working at the site.
The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
There has been a rise in deaths at the mining sites in the country. The most notorious sites include Kakamega, Siaya, West Pokot and Vihiga.
Officials are running campaigns to address the menace. The campaigns come amid resistance from some of the miners who see the sites as the only source of their living.
The mining business is popular among some locals at the sites despite the dangers it poses to them at large, officials say.
Several managers of the sites are under probe for the incidents so far reported in the past year.
Officials blame among others greediness for the tragedies.
Elsewhere, police in Mosocho, Kisii County are investigating an incident where a 62-year-old woman was found dead after suspected drowning.
The body of Gladys Bwari was found floating on Mogusi river long after she had drowned.
The woman had been at her house in the area before the body was found on Wednesday evening found in the area.
Police said they are investigating to establish if she drowned of was killed and the body dumped in the area.
The body with no physical injuries by then was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said.
And police in Kapsabet, Nandi County are investigating an incident where a civilian firearm holder lost his pistol from his house. The owner was hosting visitors in his house when he realized the weapon was missing from his locker hours later.
The Taurus pistol with 20 bullets was stolen from the safe it had been locked in, the owner said.
Police said they are investigating the incident. There were about 1,000 people at the home during the party on December 16 when the stealing happened, police said.
