    Early Life

Ronald DeVoe Jr. was born on November 17, 1967, in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Raised in a musically rich neighborhood, DeVoe developed an interest in performing at a young age, which would soon place him at the center of one of the most influential R&B groups in history.

    New Edition and Breakthrough Success

DeVoe rose to fame as a founding member of New Edition, which formed in the late 1970s alongside Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ralph Tresvant. The group’s big break came after performing at a Boston talent show, where producer Maurice Starr recognized their potential and invited them into the studio.

New Edition released its debut album “Candy Girl” in 1983. The title track became a chart-topping hit in both the United States and the United Kingdom, helping launch the group into international stardom. Follow-up releases, including “New Edition” (1984) and “All for Love” (1985), produced classic hits such as “Cool It Now,” “Mr. Telephone Man,” and “Count Me Out.”

After Bobby Brown’s departure in 1985, the group continued evolving, releasing “Under the Blue Moon” and later “Heart Break” (1988), which became their most commercially successful album. Songs like “Can You Stand the Rain” and “N.E. Heartbreak” cemented New Edition’s legacy.

The group reunited in 1996 to release “Home Again,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. New Edition has reunited multiple times since, with their final studio album “One Love” arriving in 2004.

Bell Biv DeVoe and New Jack Swing Era

In the early 1990s, DeVoe teamed up with Ricky Bell and Michael Bivins to form Bell Biv DeVoe. Encouraged by producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the trio created a more edgy, street-oriented sound that helped define the new jack swing movement.

Their debut album “Poison” (1990) was a massive success, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and earning multi-platinum certification. Hit singles such as “Poison,” “Do Me!,” and “B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)?” became staples of early-1990s R&B and hip-hop culture.

Bell Biv DeVoe followed up with “Hootie Mack” (1993) and later albums including “BBD” (2001) and “Three Stripes” (2017). “Three Stripes” marked the group’s strongest commercial showing in decades, topping the Independent Albums chart.

    Television, Film, and Media Appearances

Through New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe, DeVoe appeared in popular television series such as “Knight Rider,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Family Matters,” and “New York Undercover.” New Edition also appeared in the 1985 cult classic film “Krush Groove.”

In later years, DeVoe gained additional exposure through reality television, appearing on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” alongside his wife, Shamari DeVoe.

    Real Estate and Business Ventures

Beyond music, Ronnie DeVoe’s net worth has been bolstered by his success in real estate. He operates DeVoe Realty and DeVoe Broker Associates, a real estate brokerage based in Atlanta, Georgia. His transition into property investment and brokerage has provided a steady income stream outside of the entertainment industry.

    Personal Life

Ronnie DeVoe married Shamari Fears, former lead singer of the girl group Blaque, in 2006. The couple welcomed twin sons, Ronald III and Roman, in 2017. DeVoe frequently credits family life as a grounding influence amid his busy career.
