MP Nabwera threatens to sue Savula over claims of defamatory remarks

Lugari MP Nabii Daraja Nabwera Wednesday threatened to sue Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Angatia Savula over what he terms as defamatory and malicious statements allegedly made during a burial ceremony in November last year.

In a demand letter dated January 14, 2026, Nabwera’s lawyer Danstan Omari accused Savula of making “vicious, inaccurate, derogatory and defamatory” remarks during the burial of the late Munyuki Secondary School principal Simon Isiaho Shange at Ludodo village, Likuyani Sub-County.

The letter claimed that the Deputy Governor went as far as allegedly airing the legislator’s HIV status without proof, an act the MP says gravely injured his reputation, leadership standing, political career and personal life.

According to the lawyers, Savula’s remarks were politically motivated, unprovoked and delivered in a highly emotional public setting, making them dangerous given his influence as the county’s deputy governor and a former Lugari MP.

Nabwera is demanding a public apology within six hours of receipt of the letter, an admission that Savula commented on matters before court in violation of the sub judice rule, and compensation of Sh100 million for reputational damage.

The MP has also challenged Savula to publicly substantiate the HIV claims, stating he is willing to undergo a public HIV test at a reputable medical facility to disprove the allegations.

Savula is yet to comment on the development of the matter.
