Months after vehicles were vandalised at the Kisii County Assembly parking lot, no arrests have been made, prompting affected Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to raise concerns over alleged police inaction and selective enforcement of justice.
The leaders suspect paid goons were trucked into the assembly to cause havoc.
During the raid, Thomas Obare (Bobasi Boitangare Ward) and Amos Mokaya’s (Nyatieko Ward) cars were extensively vandalised.
At least one had its tyres slashed and its body badly damaged.
Later the MCAs described the raid as a coordinated attack aimed at silencing dissenting voices within the Assembly.
And speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Kisii, Obare and Mokaya lamented delayed justice.
They said that despite filing multiple reports at Kisii Central Police Station and receiving assurances that investigations were ongoing, the case appears to have gone cold.
“We recorded statements, but nothing has happened to date,” said Obare.
The MCAs further claimed the attackers were known individuals who operate openly, with some allegedly boasting of political protection.
“All we want is justice. Someone is culpable and must take responsibility,” Obare told journalists during a press conference in Kisii town.
At the time of the incident, videos and photographs of the vandalism circulated widely on social media, sparking public outrage and calls for swift police action.
The victims now say they had been left to shoulder repair costs running into hundreds of thousands of shillings, with no compensation or accountability.
“When crimes are committed in broad daylight and supported by clear evidence, yet nothing happens, it sends a dangerous message that violence is tolerated,” Obare said.
He added that they had even contacted police headquarters over the matter, but without success.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. If the law cannot protect us equally, people will lose faith in institutions,” he said.
Nyatieko MCA Amos Mokaya appeared to finger a leading politician from the region for using some dirty tactics to undermine the independence of the County Assembly and attempting to influence MCAs’ political alignment ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He alleged that the politician is actively working to sway elected ward representatives away from supporting former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and toward alternative political positions.
Gesusu MCA Anthony Kerage, who was present at the press conference, the same regional leader of orchestrating violence by deploying hired “goons”.
“These acts of intimidation undermine peace and threaten our democratic processes,” Kerage said, urging law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough investigations into allegations of paid goons disrupting political functions.
Speaking separately, Masimba Ward MCA Bouse Mairura also accused the politician of inciting boda boda operators against other dissenting leaders.
“The frequency of meetings he is holding leaves little doubt that there is a deliberate and coordinated effort to silence dissent,” Mairura said in a statement.
He further accused the politician of targeting and censuring MCAs who are not politically aligned with him.
“MCAs are constitutionally elected leaders, and any attempt to terrorize them into submission is an attack on devolution and democratic governance,” he said.
Mairura warned against the politicization of the boda boda sector, saying it should not be weaponized or used as political foot soldiers.
“Turning young people into instruments of intimidation and violence is exploitation and endangers their lives, their livelihoods, and the peace of Kisii County,” he said.
