Marc Clotet Fresquet is a Spanish actor, model, and film producer born on April 29, 1980, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

He holds a degree in Business Administration and Management from Universitat Ramón Llull and is fluent in Catalan, Spanish, English, and French.

Coming from a family with a strong medical background, his father is Dr. Bonaventura Clotet, a prominent AIDS researcher, and his mother is a medical doctor who later pursued pharmacy; this tradition extends to his grandfather and great-grandfather, who were also physicians.

On a personal note, Clotet was married to actress Ana de Armas from 2011 to 2013, and since 2013, he has been in a long-term relationship with actress Natalia Sánchez, with whom he shares two children: a daughter named Lia born in 2019 and a son named Neo born in 2020.

Beyond acting, he has worked as a model, appearing in Spanish fashion campaigns, and more recently co-hosted the 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Madrid alongside Ruth Lorenzo and Melani García.

Born in Barcelona like her brother, Aina has built a notable career with roles in films such as “This Is the Time” and television series including “Gran Reserva,” often collaborating with Marc on professional projects.

In 2021, Marc and Aina co-founded the production company Funicular Films alongside director Jan Andreu and producer Marta Baldó, further strengthening their professional ties through ventures like the 2023 Netflix series “Això no és Suècia” and the upcoming 2025 film “God’s Favorite Girl.”

    Career

Clotet’s career began in his mid-teens with modeling gigs in Spanish fashion campaigns, but he made his acting debut in 1997 with a minor role in the TV series “Tocao del ala.”

This success led to prominent parts in national series, including Vicente Vaquero in the teen drama “Física o química” from 2009 to 2011, appearances in “El comisario” between 2008 and 2009, and ongoing roles in “Amar es para siempre” starting in 2013 and “Morocco: Love in Times of War” from 2017 to 2018.

Transitioning to film, Clotet debuted in “Mil cretins” in 2011 and gained critical recognition for his supporting role as Paulino in the historical drama “The Sleeping Voice,” directed by Benito Zambrano, which explored women’s struggles under Franco’s dictatorship.

He continued with diverse projects, starring as Diego Padilla in the 2017 period film “The Chessplayer,” a story of love and exile during the Spanish Civil War, and appearing in comedies like “Caribe ‘Todo incluido'” in 2020 and dramas such as “15 Hours” in 2021, where he played an abusive husband addressing themes of domestic violence.

On stage, he has performed in theater productions including “Amantes” and “Romances,” showcasing his versatility across mediums.

In recent years, Clotet expanded into production by co-founding Funicular Films in 2021, contributing to international projects like the 2023 series “Això no és Suècia” on Netflix and the forthcoming 2025 thriller “Squali.”

    Accolades

In 2012, Clotet was nominated for Best New Actor at the Goya Awards for his performance in “The Sleeping Voice,” marking a significant milestone in his transition from TV to cinema.

That same year, he won the Turia Award for Best New Actor for the same role, affirming his critical acclaim in Spain.

Clotet’s leading role in “The Chessplayer” earned him the Best Actor award at the Houston International Film Festival in 2017, along with a Gold Remi Award, where the film also took honors for Best Historical Film.

More recently, in 2023, he received a nomination for Best Actor at the Premios Produ for his work in the short film “Último Primer Día,”.
