Two men were shot and wounded in a brawl at a club in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

The gunman was said to be a senior police officer who was at the C and M Bar and Lounge. It is not clear what prompted the confrontation and subsequent shooting at about 2 am on Sunday January 25.

Police revisited the scene on Sunday and recovered six more spent cartridges and a bullet head.

The shooting emanated from the club and extended to the nearby Acacia Road where three of the spent cartridges were recovered, police said.

One of the injured victims was found lying on the roadside with a bullet wound in the lower abdomen and police said on Monday he was in a stable condition in hospital.

The owner of the club and his guard were arrested for grilling over the shooting. Police said they were yet to get the gunman behind the incident and efforts to trace him were ongoing on Monday.

The team retrieved security footage that captured the drama for analysis as part of their probe.

Witnesses said they saw the gunman confront the victims from the bar to the main entrance. A security camera on the neigbouring structure captured other revealers escape the scene as the shooting ensued.

Police said they plan to press charges after their investigations are complete.

Such dramas have been common in emerging clubs in estates amid calls for regulation of the establishments, which are also blamed for noise pollution.

Meanwhile, a suspected mobile phone snatcher was shot and killed by police in a failed robbery on Kamiti Road, Kasarani, Nairobi.

The suspect is said to have snatched other mobile phones from pedestrians when an alarm was raised alerting police on Sunday dawn. The police responded to the scene and fatally shot the suspect. Police said they recovered a home-made gun with a 9mm cartridge from the slain suspect.

The team at the scene added they found four mobile phones on the suspect. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Cases of mobile phone snatching have been on the rise amid efforts to address the trend.

Some of the suspects are usually caught up by angry mobs who lynch them. The gangs use motorcycles in their missions.

Police say they have mounted operations to address the menace.
