The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to investigate former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over alleged ethnic contempt and conduct said to undermine national unity and cohesion.

In a letter addressed to the NCIC, Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Magdalene Ngalyuka said the Commission is legally mandated under Section 25(2) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act to investigate complaints related to ethnic or racial discrimination.

“In line with this statutory mandate, we hereby forward the complaint concerning the utterances made by Hon. Rigathi Gachagua for your investigation and further request that the Commission submit its findings to our offices once investigations are concluded,” the letter reads.

The directive follows a complaint received by the DPP from MMA Advocates through a letter dated January 5, 2026.

The NCIC is expected to investigate the matter and forward its findings to the DPP for further action.
