Two people have been arrested after police recovered illegal ammunition along the Garissa–Thika Highway.

In a statement, police said the arrest was made on Monday, January 3, 2026, after a multi-agency security team stopped a public service vehicle at a roadblock in the Kanyonyoo area of Lower Yatta Sub-County.

During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a backpack that had been left on a passenger seat. Inside the bag, police found 30 rounds of live ammunition.

The two suspects were arrested and taken to Kanyonyoo Police Station, where they are being held as investigations continue. The vehicle was detained, and the recovered ammunition was secured as evidence.

“The National Police Service remains committed to combating the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and to enhancing public safety and security,” police said.
