Four brothers aged between nine and 14 died after drowning in an open quarry in the Kanyakwar area of Kisumu County.

The tragic incident happened Sunday February 8 afternoon, police said.

Witnesses said the incident happened while the children were swimming in the water-filled quarry.
One of the boys reportedly moved into a deeper section of the quarry and began to drown prompting a stampede.

His three brothers attempted to rescue him but were also overwhelmed by the water.

Residents raised the alarm, prompting a response from local authorities.

All four bodies were later retrieved from the quarry.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old woman was found murdered at Tokyo village in Thumaita, Ndia, Kirinyaga County.
Jane Wambui’s body was discovered naked and dumped in a farm, about five hundred meters from the family homestead.

Police said a pair of shoes was left along the road, indicating the perpetrator’s attempt to conceal the crime.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere in Sega, Siaya County, a decomposed body of a man was found in a bush. The victim was later identified as Dennis Mbwari, 40. The police said the deceased had gone missing on February 2, 2026 while the body was discovered six days later. The police said they were investigating murder as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy
