Sifuna vows to call out Ruto’s leadership amid ODM faction clashes

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has declared that he will not cower from calling out President William Ruto’s administration, noting that it has exhibited a frail leadership that is crippling the nation.

Speaking during a church service in Kitengela, Kajiado County, Sifuna vowed to maintain his censures against the State and defend the citizens in honour of the late founder of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Raila Odinga.

“We will not fear anything. We will continue to speak the truth so that we protect the citizens from the corruption in this country and the abductions we have witnessed. Raila told us a leader does not lead himself and we will honor that,” he noted.

“Kenyans have given me comfort to know that even if they do away with Sifuna, more than 15 million Sifunas will continue with this mission.

Sifuna, the embattled Secretary General of ODM, also argued that President Ruto’s leadership has impaired critical sectors of service delivery among them health and education yet those calling out the ills are being gagged.

“Everything is going wrong even in the health sector but they are saying we keep quiet least they remove us from our positions. All leadership positions are given by the citizens, I will protect you today and you will protect us tomorrow,” he noted.

Sifuna has remained a thorn in President Ruto’s flesh since he has remained a tough opposer of his administration’s policies, costing him his SG role in ODM.

The party handed the position to Deputy Secretary General and Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo in acting capacity, citing that Sifuna had not been adhering to party resolutions.
He however disputed the changes, alongside other top brass ODM members among them James Orengo and Babu Owino, saying that his removal was illegal and is a political witch hunt for not supporting President Ruto’s leadership.

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) halted attempts to remove him from office pending the hearing and determination of the application on an inter partes basis.

ODM has experienced a significant rift after the demise of Raila Odinga since Sifuna and his allies have not warmed up to partnering with President Ruto while the Oburu Odinga-led faction has warmed up to working with the President under the broad-based agreement and even support his 2027 presidential bid.

ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, among other party leaders, has accused Sifuna of working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to weaken the party in its perceived strongholds.

    Sifuna denies the claims.
