A form three student was arrested after he hit and killed a Grade Nine pupil in a fight in Embobut, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The two were fighting on March 2 in Kaptul village when the form three student picked a piece of wood and hit the deceased in the head.

The deceased was a student at Chawis Junior Secondary School, police said.

He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the head injuries. Police said the assailant surrendered to the Embobut police station and was detained pending grilling and possible arraignment for murder.

Police visited the scene of the attack and recovered a club that was used in the attack.

Elsewhere in Khayega, Kakamega County, one Alice Khamera, 43 was found dead on the roadside after a suspected murder.

Police said the body had a visible injury in the head when it was discovered on March 3, 2026. The motive of the murder was not immediately established and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations, police said.

In Tongaren, Bungoma County, a suspected chicken thief was lynched by a mob in an attack. This was after he was allegedly found stealing the chicken from a house in the area. The suspect was burnt in a house he had run to for his safety. The body was moved to the mortuary after the March 3, 2026 incident. Police discourage mob lynching incidents and want suspects be surrendered to authorities for action. More than 500 people were in the past year killed in mob lynching incidents, authorities revealed.
