    Christy Turlington was born on January 2, 1969, in Walnut Creek.

    She is the middle child of three daughters born to Dwain Turlington, a pilot for Pan American World Airways, and María Elizabeth Turlington, a flight attendant originally from El Salvador.

    Turlington was discovered by photographer Dennie Cody while riding horses in Miami, where her father was working at the time.

    She began modeling after school and during summer holidays while attending Monte Vista High School.

    After turning 18, Turlington moved to New York City to pursue modeling full-time. However, she later returned to complete her high school education.

    In 1999, she graduated from New York University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Religion and Eastern Philosophy from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study. She later continued her studies at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.

    Modeling Career

    Christy Turlington built a highly successful modeling career during the 1990s and became one of the most recognized faces in fashion.

    In 2010, she directed the documentary No Woman, No Cry, which explores maternal health issues in several countries. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

    She also founded the non-profit organization Every Mother Counts, which works to make pregnancy and childbirth safer for women worldwide. The organization operates programs in the United States, Indonesia, Uganda, Haiti, and Malawi.

    Christy Turlington married actor and filmmaker Edward Burns in 2003.

    The couple first met at a party in The Hamptons in 2000 and got engaged later that year. After briefly separating in 2002, they reunited and married in San Francisco.

    Their wedding was attended by Bono, the lead singer of U2.

    Turlington and Burns have two children, Grace and Finn, and have largely kept their family life private.
