    Early Life

    Marisa Miller was born Marisa Lee Bertetta on August 6, 1978, in Santa Cruz, California, United States. She is the daughter of Marc and Krista Bertetta and grew up alongside her two younger sisters.

    During her teenage years, Miller attended Aptos High School and Monte Vista Christian School, where she was known as a talented volleyball player. She has often described herself as a tomboy, saying she spent much of her youth with male friends and enjoyed outdoor activities.

    Her modeling journey began at the age of 16, when two Italian modeling agents discovered her in San Francisco. Shortly afterward, she traveled to Italy with her mother to begin her modeling career.

    Miller first gained attention in 1997 when she appeared in the debut issue of the men’s magazine Perfect 10. She later appeared in several other issues and even graced the covers of the Winter 1998 and August/September 1999 editions.

    Breakthrough

    Miller’s career took a major step forward after she met renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino in 2001. With his support, she transitioned into mainstream fashion modeling, appearing in editorials for both the American and Italian editions of Vogue.

    Soon after, she began working with Victoria’s Secret and appeared in her first Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

    Between 2002 and 2008, Miller appeared in every annual edition of the swimsuit issue, which helped establish her as one of the most recognizable models of the era.

    She also supports the United Service Organizations (USO) and frequently visits military bases around the world.

    Additionally, Miller advocates for the Young Survival Coalition, which raises awareness about breast cancer among women under 40.

    She has also supported environmental initiatives, including the Surfrider Foundation, which works to protect oceans and beaches worldwide.
