    Maurice Jones-Drew Contracts and Salaries

Jones-Drew was selected 60th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He signed a four-year rookie contract worth $2.7 million, marking the start of his professional career.

After establishing himself as one of the league’s most productive running backs, he signed a five-year contract extension worth $31.1 million in 2009, which included a $9 million signing bonus.

Following eight seasons in Jacksonville, Jones-Drew joined the Oakland Raiders in 2014 on a three-year, $7.5 million deal. However, he played only one season before retiring.

Over his nine-year NFL career, Jones-Drew earned approximately $36.6 million, with more than $34 million coming from his time with the Jaguars.

    Early Life

Maurice Christopher Jones-Drew was born on March 23, 1985, in Oakland. He was raised in Antioch, California, by his maternal grandparents, Christina and Maurice.

Jones-Drew attended De La Salle High School, where he became a standout football player. As a running back, return specialist, and linebacker, he helped lead the school to a record-breaking 151-game winning streak, the longest in high school football history. His team remained undefeated during all three years of his varsity career. In addition to football, he also competed in track and field.

    College Football Career

Jones-Drew earned a football scholarship to the University of California, Los Angeles, where he played for the UCLA Bruins football from 2003 to 2005 under head coach Karl Dorrell.

His standout season came in 2005, when he set an NCAA single-season record with an average of 28.5 yards per punt return. He also became the first UCLA player since Jackie Robinson to lead the nation in punt returning.

    That year he was named:

    • First-team All-Pac-10
    • Unanimous All-American

During his college career, he set multiple UCLA records, including 4,688 career all-purpose yards and 322 rushing yards in a single game. Although he entered the NFL before finishing his degree, he returned to UCLA in 2013 to complete his bachelor’s degree.

    Jacksonville Jaguars

Jones-Drew made an immediate impact with the Jacksonville Jaguars after being drafted in 2006. During his rookie season, he recorded:

    • 941 rushing yards
    • 13 rushing touchdowns
    • 436 receiving yards

He also set a Jaguars franchise record with 303 all-purpose yards in a game against the Indianapolis Colts.

His breakout season came in 2009, when he rushed for 1,391 yards and set a team record with 15 rushing touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.

Jones-Drew continued his dominance in 2010, recording 1,324 rushing yards, despite playing most of the season with a torn meniscus.

In 2011, he had the best season of his career, leading the NFL with 1,606 rushing yards, another Jaguars franchise record. His performance earned him NFL Alumni Running Back of the Year honors and recognition as one of the league’s elite running backs.

Injuries slowed him down in later seasons, and he played his final year with Jacksonville in 2013.

    Oakland Raiders

Jones-Drew returned to his hometown area in 2014 when he signed with the Oakland Raiders. However, the season proved difficult, as he recorded just 96 rushing yards and no touchdowns.

He announced his retirement in March 2015. The following month, he signed a one-day contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars to officially retire with the team where he spent most of his career.

    Post-Retirement Career

After retiring from football, Jones-Drew transitioned into broadcasting and sports analysis. He has worked as a football analyst for NFL Network and contributed to coverage of Super Bowl LVII for ITV.

He has also appeared on sports programs and hosts a football radio show on SiriusXM called “Runnin’ with MJD.”

    Personal Life

Jones-Drew married his longtime girlfriend Ashley in 2012. The couple has three children: two sons, Maurice II and Madden, and a daughter named Alayah.
