A police officer guarding the Mombasa County Industrial Park in Bonje area, Jomvu Sub-County, was attacked by a gang of armed men who also made away with his service rifle in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said the incident occurred on March 14, 2026, at about 12:45 a.m.

The officer attached to Maganda Police Station, was on duty guarding the industrial park when he was confronted by a group of about 10 to 15 men armed with machetes.

The gang reportedly assaulted the officer using kicks and blows before ordering him to lie down.

During the attack, the assailants stole his assault rifle—an AK-47 loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition. They also took his mobile phone and another phone belonging to a watchman at the facility.

After the robbery, the attackers fled towards the Bonje area.

Police officers led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Mikindani and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Jomvu responded to the incident and launched a manhunt for the suspects.

Security teams are still combing the area in efforts to recover the firearm and apprehend those involved. Meanwhile, a police officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kwale County was injured after members of the public attacked a group of undercover officers during an operation in the Bombolulu area of Nyali Sub-County, Mombasa County.

Police said the incident occurred at around 11:11 p.m. when officers from Kadzandani Police Station and DCI Nyali conducted preliminary investigations into the matter.

The investigations established that Corporal Simon Charo Fondo, attached to DCI Kwale, was in the company of four other officers who were operating undercover within Bombolulu area, reportedly targeting a suspected hard drugs den.

However, the mission was unsuccessful after members of the public discovered the officers and pounced on them. As the officers attempted to withdraw from the scene, Corporal Fondo was cornered by the mob and subjected to mob injustice.

He sustained injuries during the attack and was initially rushed to Bomu Medical Clinic for first aid before being referred to Jocham Hospital for further treatment.

The officer was later treated and discharged in fair condition.
