National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has officially declared the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat vacant following the death of area MP Joshua Kipyegon Ng’eno.

In a gazette notice dated March 10, 2026, the Speaker said the vacancy arises in line with the Constitution and laws governing parliamentary representation.

“It is notified for general information of the public that the seat of the Member of the National Assembly for Emurua Dikirr Constituency has become vacant as a result of the death of Hon. Joshua Kipyegon Ng’eno on February 28, 2026,” the notice reads.

The declaration paves the way for a by-election to elect a new Member of Parliament for the constituency in Narok County.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has scheduled the by-election for May 14, 2026.

Ng’eno died on February 28 after a helicopter crash in the Chepkiep area of Mosop, Nandi County. He was among six people who lost their lives when the aircraft crashed and caught fire shortly after takeoff due to poor weather conditions.

The late MP was serving his third term at the time of his death.
