Police in Nakuru County launched a manhunt for a suspect linked to the fatal stabbing of a 9-year-old boy in Mauche area, Njoro Sub-County.
The incident, reported on the night of March 23, 2026, occurred in Tepeswet Village.
According to authorities, the victim, a pupil at Tepeswet Comprehensive School, was walking home from a nearby shopping centre when he encountered a young man believed to be in his early 20s.
The suspect allegedly attacked the child and stabbed him on the lower left rib, inflicting a deep wound.
Police responded to the scene and found the boy lying on his back with severe bleeding from the stab wound.
The motive of the attack remains unclear, as the suspect fled immediately after committing the crime.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the body was moved to Egerton University Mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
Authorities have since launched a search for the suspect and are appealing to members of the public with any information that could assist in his arrest to come forward.
The incident has shocked residents of the quiet rural community, with calls for swift justice and enhanced security.
Elsewhere, police in Meru County are investigating the death of an unidentified man found with a gunshot wound following a reported armed exchange in Lowangila area, Tigania East Sub-County.
The discovery was made on March 23, 2026, at around 11:00 a.m., several hours after an earlier shooting incident involving stolen camels in the same vicinity. Members of the public alerted authorities after spotting the lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.
Officers responded promptly, processed the scene, and secured the area. The body was then transported to Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation, identification, and post-mortem examination.
Authorities are appealing to local residents with information about the incident to come forward, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The incident comes amid protests from locals on increased banditry attacks which have left some of them dead and dozens of livestock stolen.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said the government had made significant gains since taking office in 2022, restoring calm in previously volatile regions affected by terrorism and cattle rustling, particularly in North Eastern and coastal areas such as Lamu.
However, the government has raised concern over a resurgence of banditry in Meru County, where near-daily attacks have reportedly led to loss of lives and widespread livestock theft.
The renewed operation will focus on known hotspots including Mukogodo Forest, Kipsing, Ngare Mara and Milima Lebendera in Isiolo County, as well as Lentana and Sereolipi in Samburu County.
These areas are believed to be hideouts for armed bandits and locations where stolen livestock is being held.
According to Kindiki, additional elite security units have been deployed, supported by enhanced equipment and air assets.
The operation will be intelligence-led and executed across both land and air, with a directive to neutralize threats, recover stolen livestock, and seize illegal firearms.
