Detectives are investigating an incident where a 70-year-old church watchman was found murdered within the compound of Mount Zion SDA Church of God in Ngoni Village, Shikomari, Navakholo Sub-County, Kakamega County.
The incident was reported on Friday, September 18, 2026, after the elderly man reportedly screamed for help at around 2:30 a.m.
Police officers rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body of Johnson Mukuba lying on the ground within the church compound.
According to the police, Mukuba had sustained a deep cut to the head and a fracture to his right hand.
Both his hands and legs had been tied using cloth straps.
Preliminary observations indicated that there had been no break-in and that nothing had been stolen from the church compound.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators, after which the body was moved to the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Elsewhere, a 25-year-old man was found murdered in a tea plantation in Bundo Village, Nyamira County, on Friday morning.
The body of Daudi Nyamoko, a resident of Nyamokenye Village in Bomabacho Sub-location, West Mugirango Location, was discovered in the Bonyamatuta Chache area within Township Sub-location.
Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased had suffered severe injuries.
According to the police, Nyamoko was found lying on his back with his face covered in blood.
His neck had been slit with a sharp object, while the left side of his face had been severely mutilated. Visible stab wounds were also noted on the right side of his body.
The scene was processed and documented by Crime Scene Investigation officers from Nyamira.
The body was later moved to the Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing are ongoing.
