Detectives are investigating an incident where a 70-year-old church watchman was found murdered within the compound of Mount Zion SDA Church of God in Ngoni Village, Shikomari, Navakholo Sub-County, Kakamega County.

The incident was reported on Friday, September 18, 2026, after the elderly man reportedly screamed for help at around 2:30 a.m.

Police officers rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body of Johnson Mukuba lying on the ground within the church compound.

According to the police, Mukuba had sustained a deep cut to the head and a fracture to his right hand.

Both his hands and legs had been tied using cloth straps.

Preliminary observations indicated that there had been no break-in and that nothing had been stolen from the church compound.

The scene was processed and documented by investigators, after which the body was moved to the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
