Detectives in Nairobi launched investigations into a fatal shooting incident that claimed the life of a 25-year-old boda boda rider in the Loresho area.

Police said the incident was initially reported by the head of security at New Loresho Estate Association.

He indicated that on the previous evening on March 30 at around 7:40 p.m., a resident reported hearing a commotion followed by gunshots near the University of Nairobi coffee plantation.

The following morning, security guards on patrol discovered the lifeless body of a man within the plantation.

Police officers who responded to the scene identified the deceased as John Onyango, a boda boda rider operating in Kangemi.

His motorcycle was found lying next to the body.

Investigators noted signs of a struggle a short distance from where the body was found.

A preliminary examination revealed that the deceased had sustained four suspected gunshot wounds—one to the chest exiting through the back, one on the left thigh, another on the left arm near the wrist, and one on the lower left abdomen.

A spent 9mm cartridge was recovered at the scene and preserved as evidence.

Crime scene investigators documented the area before the body was moved to Nairobi Funeral Home for a postmortem examination.

The motive of the murder was not immediately known.

Police said the deceased seemed to have been hired to the area before an argument arose between him and his assailants who shot him.

Detectives revisited the scene on Tuesday as part of the probe.

The motorcycle was towed to Spring Valley Police Station for further analysis.

The incident initially sparked tension among boda boda riders in the area, but the situation was later brought under control.

Police are continuing with investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and to identify those responsible.
