Detectives in Laikipia West Sub-County are investigating a fatal shooting incident that claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy at a private ranch.

The victim was fatally shot by the son of the ranch owner, police said.

According to the police, the incident was reported on April 22, 2026.

The victim is said to have been shot dead the previous night at Ol Donyo Leboro Ranch in unclear circumstances, police said.

Police visited the scene and established that the minor was allegedly shot by another juvenile, Lance Tomilson, a 15-year-old and son of the ranch owner.

Preliminary findings indicate that the bullet entered through the right rear shoulder and exited through the upper right side of the chest.

Crime scene investigators processed the area and recovered a suspected firearm—a Mark Four CZ 527 rifle—along with one round of ammunition and two spent cartridges.

The body of the deceased was moved to Rumuruti Funeral Home, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police said the minor was detained pending further investigations. The incident caused tension in the area amid probe into the same.

Police said they are investigating murder in the incident.

Meanwhile, police in Nyamira North Sub-county are investigating a brutal murder incident that occurred in Gekonge Village, about four kilometres northwest of Magwagwa Police Station.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Robinson Nyangau Ongori, 52, had allegedly picked a quarrel with his wife and son.

The dispute reportedly escalated, resulting in Ongori sustaining a deep cut to the back of the head before he was set on fire.

Authorities have identified the suspects as his wife and their son aged 18.

The scene was processed and documented by DCI officers, and the two suspects were apprehended and taken to Ekerenyo Police Station as investigations continue.

Police said they were likely to face murder charges.
