Prince William marked a special family milestone on April 23 as his youngest son, Prince Louis, turned eight—balancing the celebration with an official royal engagement focused on innovation and sustainability.

The Prince of Wales carried out a solo visit to the headquarters of Jaguar TCS Racing in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, where he explored cutting-edge developments in electric motorsport and sustainable technology.

The visit highlighted the team’s work in electrification and green innovation—an area closely aligned with Prince William’s long-standing environmental advocacy. In 2020, he launched the Earthshot Prize, a global initiative aimed at accelerating solutions to the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.

Formula E, the world’s first all-electric international single-seater racing championship, has rapidly grown into a leading motorsport series since its launch in 2014. It is widely recognised for its sustainability credentials, including achieving a net-zero carbon footprint and securing B Corp certification for social and environmental performance.

During the visit, Prince William toured the state-of-the-art facility, meeting engineers, graduates and drivers including Mitch Evans and António Félix da Costa. He was also given an inside look at the design and manufacturing of the team’s I-TYPE 7 race car, as well as the remote operations room used to support trackside performance.

The royal outing coincided with Prince Louis’ eighth birthday. The young royal, known for his lively personality at public events, is the third child of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales. The couple also share Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The birthday comes just days after commemorations marking what would have been the 100th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II on April 21. Senior members of the royal family, including King Charles III and Queen Camilla, gathered earlier this week at Buckingham Palace to honour the late monarch’s legacy.
