Embu Communications officer Mutugi Njue and Hansard reporter Daizy Rutere have been suspended for allegedly revealing MCAs Sh.11m gym subscription budget.

The county assembly service board relieved the two employees of their duties following reports that they had leaked crucial information on an expenditure in this year’s budget report.

According to the county assembly Clerk Jim Kauma, the duo violated the Official Secrets Act of 1968, and the Access to Information Act of 2016 and will henceforth receive half their salaries pending investigations.

The two are also said to have leaked information that the assembly planned on spending a whooping Sh.3 million to purchase underwear for pupils in the county.

It has also been said that the ward representatives were going to sign off on an irregular payment of Sh.160 million to buy land that is already owned by the county.

Should Mr Njue and Ms Rutere not have blown the whistle on the MCAs, another Sh.2 million would have been used to paint septic tanks in Vocational Training Centres.

On his part Clerk Kauma said the two should have never let the media on the goings on of the assembly.

But some MCAs have defended the two saying that they are being unfairly targeted.

Runyenjes Central MCA Steve Simba said the board contravened the “County Assemblies Services Act of 2017 and all known labour laws.”
