A police officer attached to Bomet Traffic Base was found dead at her home in Mangu area, Rongai Sub-County, Nakuru County.
Corporal Veronica Ondari was discovered lifeless on her bed on April 24, 2026, at around 2:00 p.m.
Officers from Menengai Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Rongai, visited the scene and found no visible injuries on the body.
The scene was processed and documented, with preliminary investigations indicating that the officer had been battling heart-related complications for some time and had frequently sought medical treatment.
Her body was moved to the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending a postmortem examination.
Authorities have classified the incident as a sudden death, with investigations ongoing.
Meanwhile, 13 people were killed in separate road accidents on Friday night in the country.
Police said the victims included four pedestrians, three riders, two pillion passengers, two drivers and two passengers.
The accidents also left 37 passengers with serious injuries. They were admitted in hospitals, police said.
Officials say reckless overtaking, speeding, and drunk driving remain among the leading causes of road accidents across the country, continuing to claim lives despite sustained public safety campaigns by National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
Mechanical failures from poorly maintained vehicles, including worn tyres and faulty brakes, have also been identified as significant contributors to the growing number of crashes. In addition to driver negligence, poor road conditions such as potholes, confusing signage, and inadequate lighting make travel increasingly hazardous.
