Police in Igembe Central, Meru County are investigating a case where a human skeleton was discovered hanging from a tree in Nyambene Forest.

The remains were found deep inside the forest by a Kenya Forest Service officer.

Police and other officials visited the scene and confirmed the discovery.

According to police, the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, with only a skeleton remaining.

The remains, believed to have been at the site for several months, were found hanging from a tree with a piece of cloth tied around the neck.

Some limbs were missing, and the gender of the deceased could not immediately be established.

The scene was processed before the remains were collected and moved to the Nyambene Sub-County mortuary for forensic analysis and identification.

Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.

Elsewhere, a middle-aged man was found dead in a maize plantation in Narok North Sub-county, with police launching investigations into the incident.

The body of Simon Longisa Taek, a 40-year-old resident of Kisiriri Village, was discovered on Thursday afternoon in Enabelbel area, police said.

Police officers visited the scene and confirmed the man was dead.

Authorities said the body had no visible physical injuries at the time it was discovered.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to the Narok County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Detectives from DCI Narok North have taken over investigations.

And two drowning incidents were reported in Baringo and Vihiga Counties.

Police said the victims included a woman aged 86 whose body was found floating on a river in Etsava River in Vihiga.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

More than 200 people have been killed by drowning in the past months in incidents linked to flooding out of rains being experienced, police said.

Dozens others were displaced by the floods. The meteorological department has warned of more rains in the coming days prompting officials to order evacuation of those in lowlands.
