    Frederik Andersen is a Danish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL).

    Born on October 2, 1989, in Herning, Denmark, he stands 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs around 229 pounds.

    Known for his size, calm demeanor, and strong technical skills, Andersen catches left and has established himself as one of the NHL’s reliable veteran netminders.

    He was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the seventh round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft but re-entered and was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round (87th overall) in 2012.

    He has played for the Ducks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and now the Hurricanes, representing Denmark on the international stage.

    Frederik has three siblings, two younger brothers, Sebastian Andersen and Valdemar Andersen, and a younger sister, Amalie Andersen.

    Sebastian is a retired professional defenseman who played primarily in Denmark’s top league with Herning IK and represented Denmark at junior international levels.

    Amalie is a defenseman who has played for the Danish women’s national team, competed in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF), and continues her career in Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan with Rögle BK.

    Valdemar is a goaltender, like Frederik, playing junior hockey in North America with the Minnesota Wilderness in the NAHL.

    Career

    Andersen began his career in Denmark’s Metal Ligaen with teams like Herning IK and Frederikshavn White Hawks, where he excelled and earned league MVP honors.

    After being drafted, he honed his skills in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Ducks’ affiliates before making his NHL debut in 2013.

    He quickly became a starter in Anaheim, helping the Ducks reach the Western Conference Final in 2015.

    Traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016, Andersen became their primary goaltender for several seasons, playing in high-pressure environments and earning an All-Star selection in 2020.

    In 2021, he signed with the Carolina Hurricanes, where he has thrived as a key contributor to a contending team, sharing the William M. Jennings Trophy for fewest team goals allowed.

    Known for his durability and consistency, he has played over 550 NHL games with a career save percentage around .913-.915 and more than 300 wins.

    He has also represented Denmark at multiple IIHF World Championships.

    Accolades

    Andersen shared the William M. Jennings Trophy with the Hurricanes in both 2015-16 (with Anaheim) and 2021-22.

    He was selected to the 2020 NHL All-Star Game and has been recognized multiple times as Danish Goalie of the Year.

    Internationally, he earned Best Goaltender honors at the 2018 IIHF World Championship and has been a cornerstone for Denmark’s national team.
