Passengers experienced delays on Sunday morning after two flights were temporarily diverted due to fog that affected visibility at the runway of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

In a statement issued on Sunday, May 10, 2026, Kenya Airways said flights KQ739 from Lilongwe and KQ709 from Harare were temporarily diverted to Kilimanjaro International Airport as a safety precaution.

The airline said the diversions were necessitated by poor visibility caused by fog during approach to the JKIA runway.

Kenya Airways later confirmed that both flights safely returned and landed at JKIA after weather conditions improved.

“The diversions have resulted in a few delays only affecting our regional routes,” the airline said.

KQ apologised to customers affected by the disruption and assured them that efforts were underway to minimise inconvenience.

“We are actively working to minimise disruptions to our schedule and support affected guests through regular communication updates and alternative travel arrangements where applicable,” the airline added.
