Police in Bureti Sub-county, Kericho County, are investigating a drowning incident in which a 37-year-old man died while carrying out repair works inside a water well.
The deceased was identified as Vincent Kipsang Koskei.
According to police, the incident was reported on Wednesday morning after the man’s body was discovered submerged inside a well at Yakwai area within the jurisdiction of Cheplanget Police Station.
Preliminary investigations indicate that while undertaking the repair works, Koskei allegedly slipped and drowned after the owner of the well temporarily left the scene to look for construction materials.
The body was later retrieved from the well with the help of members of the public. Police said no visible physical injuries were observed on the body.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Kapkatet Sub-County Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
And police in Kuria West Sub-county, Migori County, launched investigations into the murder of a 40-year-old woman whose body was found inside her house opposite Kehancha Bus Park.
The deceased was identified as Sarah Mwita, a trader who sold omena (daga) at a local stall in Kehancha town.
According to police, a team visited the scene after reports that a woman had been found dead inside her residence.
Preliminary investigations established that the deceased’s current husband of 10 years reportedly tried calling her without success and also noted that she had failed to report to her business stall.
Police said the deceased’s sister, became concerned after finding the house locked from inside on Wednesday morning.
Together with a nephew who had spare keys, they opened the house and found Sarah Mwita lying dead on the floor in a pool of blood.
Investigators said the house showed signs of a struggle and the body had several visible stab wounds on the abdomen.
The body was moved to Kehancha Sub County Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
Police are also pursuing leads linked to a long-standing marital dispute involving the deceased and her estranged former husband.
According to investigators, the matter had previously been reported at the assistant chief’s office in Kehancha following disagreements after the deceased reportedly left him and married her current husband.
The former husband is said to have gone missing since Tuesday and detectives are pursuing him as part of the ongoing investigations.
