The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a two-week partial closure of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road section near Junction Mall to facilitate ongoing road works.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, May 17, KURA said the affected section will be partially closed from Monday, May 18, 2026, to Sunday, May 31, 2026.

The closure will take place daily between 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. to allow contractors to undertake asphalt works as part of the final phase of the project.

“We wish to notify the general public that a section of Ngong Road / Naivasha Road at the Junction Mall will be partially closed as from Monday 18th, May 2026, till Sunday 31st, May 2026, both days inclusive. The closing will be carried out from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM,” KURA said in part.

“This is to allow the contractor to undertake the asphalt works as part of the final finishing works,” the notice added.

Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes during the closure period and comply with instructions issued by traffic police officers and marshals deployed to manage traffic flow around the construction area.

KURA also apologised for the inconvenience likely to be caused by the temporary disruption.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused as we endeavour to transform urban mobility,” the authority said.

The announcement comes as the construction of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road flyover approaches completion.

Earlier this week, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the Junction Mall flyover project had entered its final stages, with major structural works already completed.

In an update issued on May 11, Omollo said the steel superstructure and primary structural framework of the overpass had been finalised, with ongoing works now focused on deck slab installation, asphalt surfacing, road line marking and installation of high-mast LED lighting and supporting infrastructure.

“The construction of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road (Junction Mall) Flyover, currently in its final stages, marks another major step in redefining Nairobi’s infrastructural capacity as a modern and globally competitive capital city,” Omollo said.

The project includes an 800-metre elevated dual carriageway featuring a 254-metre steel bridge section and four traffic lanes aimed at separating through-traffic from local access near Junction Mall.

The flyover will also feature pedestrian walkways fitted with benches, cycling lanes and improved stormwater drainage systems to help reduce flooding in the area.

According to the government, the overpass is expected to ease traffic congestion between Ngong Town and Nairobi’s central business district while improving connectivity to Talanta Stadium ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
