Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has issued an update on the ongoing construction of Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui Town, saying the facility is nearing completion.

According to Omollo, the stadium has been transformed into a modern 10,000-seater sports complex aimed at boosting talent development and supporting the creative economy through sports.

He said the project, which began in June 2025, is currently in its final stages, with drainage works, including stormwater channeling and surface finishing, nearing completion.

“Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui Town has been transformed into a modern, 10,000-seater world-class sports complex, marking a significant investment in talent development and the creative economy through sports,” Omollo said.

The Principal Secretary noted that the facility is expected to strengthen Kitui’s position as a sports destination as Kenya continues to grow its profile in regional and continental sports tourism.

The stadium features reinforced concrete terraces with roofing, a presidential pavilion, and exclusive VIP lounges designed to accommodate different categories of spectators.

It also includes a standard football pitch and an eight-lane tartan track built to competitive athletics standards.

“Security and accessibility have been prioritised through the construction of an 885-metre perimeter wall, modern security installations and access facilities for persons with disabilities,” Omollo added.

Beyond sports, Omollo said the facility is expected to create professional opportunities for local talent while stimulating economic activity in the region.

He noted that increased sporting events will support small businesses, hospitality, and transport services, positioning Kitui as a hub for talent, unity, and socio-economic growth.
