    Career

Oblak began his football journey in his hometown with local club Ločan before moving to Olimpija Ljubljana as a youngster.

His talent quickly caught the eye, leading to a transfer to Portuguese giants Benfica in 2010 at the age of 17.

After loan spells at clubs like Beira-Mar, Olhanense, and União de Leiria to gain experience, he broke through as Benfica’s first-choice goalkeeper, contributing to a domestic treble in the 2013-14 season that included the Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal, and Taça da Liga.

In July 2014, Atlético Madrid signed him for a then-club-record €16 million.

Initially serving as backup, Oblak seized the starting role and has since become one of the club’s all-time greats.

He has helped Atlético win major honors, including the 2017-18 UEFA Europa League and the 2020-21 La Liga title.

Over the years, he has delivered countless match-winning performances, particularly in high-stakes Champions League encounters.

On the international stage, Oblak has been Slovenia’s first-choice goalkeeper since his debut in 2012, captaining the side and leading them in major tournaments.

    Accolades

Oblak has won the La Liga Zamora Trophy, a prestigious award given to the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-to-games ratio, on multiple occasions, including a record-setting streak that underscores his dominance in Spanish football.

With Atlético Madrid, his team successes include the UEFA Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup, the La Liga title, and the Supercopa de España.

At Benfica, he secured Portuguese league and cup titles.

Individually, Oblak has received numerous nominations for the Ballon d’Or and has been named Slovenian Footballer of the Year several times.
