Kiambu Governor  Waititu has said that the property worth Ksh1.8 billion under his name belongs to him but he did not use public funds to purchase.

Social media reports had stated that the governor had purchased properties in prime areas in Nairobi central business district using public funds.

He said that the rumors were being spread by his political rivals who wanted to compete against him in 2022.

The director of public prosecutions is said to be investigating the governing probing how he was able to purchase the properties with only 10 months in office.

However the governor has refuted the claims saying that he had bought the properties long before he became governor. He said that the claims on social media were malicious.

He also denied claims that he was awarding family members tenders worth millions.

He asked the said rumor mongers to go to the banks to find out the loan he had taken tto purchase those properties instead of peddling falsehoods.

Governor Waititu said that he had not received any information that the DPP was probing him on corruption allegations. He also said that as a governor he was entitled to take loans and could take loans of up to Sh.5billion due his ability to pay back.

“Even as a governor, I have every right to take loans from banks as long as we qualify and buy whatever we want to buy,” said the governor.
