A 22-year-old woman was found dead after she was reportedly stabbed near Nakuru Stage in Lari, Kiambu County, in what police are investigating as a suspected murder.
According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026. A witness told investigators that at about 5:00 a.m., while asleep in his rented house opposite Nakuru Stage, he was awakened by a man shouting in Swahili, “Unaenda Nakuru?” Moments later, he heard a woman screaming for help.
The witness rushed outside and found a nearby hotel owner, who informed him that a young woman had collapsed at the hotel’s doorstep after arriving while bleeding heavily.
Police officers visited the scene and found the woman’s body lying in a pool of blood. She had sustained a deep stab wound to her upper left leg.
Preliminary investigations indicate the victim was at the stage waiting to travel towards Naivasha when she was attacked. Despite sustaining the injury, she reportedly ran towards the nearby hotel seeking help before collapsing and dying at the scene.
The deceased was identified as Mukuhi Tabitha Waithira, 22, who was employed at Sanctuary Farm in Naivasha.
The scene was documented by investigators before the body was moved to Uphome Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and to identify those responsible.
Meanwhile, police are investigating a suspected drowning after the body of a 50-year-old man was recovered from Naka River in Chuka North Sub-County, Tharaka Nithi County.
The incident was reported on Sunday, July 5, 2026, by a local who informed authorities that the body of his cousin, David Kirimi Kanga, had been found floating in Naka River at Kibumbu Village.
Police officers visited the scene and found the body floating in the river in an advanced state of decomposition.
Preliminary information indicates that the deceased had last been seen about a week earlier.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Chuka General Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police have opened investigations into the suspected drowning.
