Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr Raymond Omollo has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots administration through the operationalisation of administrative units aimed at bringing public services closer to citizens.

Speaking during a worship service at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Mutumbu, Siaya County, Dr. Omollo said the government has operationalised more than 1,800 administrative units, including 74 sub-counties, to improve service delivery, enhance security coordination and increase access to government programmes.

He noted that Siaya County has benefited from the initiative through the establishment of new administrative units in areas including Bondo and Alego Usonga, enabling residents to access essential government services closer to their communities.

The PS urged residents to support the recruitment of qualified and ethical individuals to serve as chiefs and assistant chiefs, saying National Government Administrative Officers play a vital role in facilitating the issuance of national identity cards, supporting voter registration and coordinating development programmes at the grassroots.

Dr. Omollo also appealed to residents, particularly young people, to embrace peace, unity and responsible citizenship as the foundation for sustainable development. He cautioned against divisive politics and actions that threaten social cohesion, stressing that leadership should be guided by service, integrity and commitment to the welfare of citizens.

He encouraged communities to work together in supporting development initiatives and creating an environment that fosters economic opportunities. The PS further urged young people to take advantage of government programmes focused on expanding access to education, skills development and economic empowerment.

On education, Dr. Omollo said the Kenya Kwanza administration continues to prioritise investment in learning infrastructure, teacher recruitment and expanded access to quality education, describing education as the country’s greatest equaliser and a key driver of national transformation.

He added that ongoing investments in infrastructure and the energy sector are creating new opportunities for industrialisation, employment and improved livelihoods through expanded electricity connectivity and strategic energy projects.

Dr. Omollo also welcomed the operationalisation of the Sovereign Wealth Fund framework, describing it as a significant step towards ensuring revenues from Kenya’s natural resources benefit both present and future generations.

He said resource-rich counties such as Siaya stand to gain from the responsible and sustainable exploitation of minerals while attracting increased private sector investment.

The PS reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable development across all regions, saying national progress can only be realised when every part of the country is included in the development agenda.

He concluded by calling on religious institutions to continue partnering with the government in promoting moral values, national unity and peaceful coexistence, while encouraging Kenyans to support initiatives that improve livelihoods and accelerate development.

Among those present were Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda and Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo.
