Knowing how to charge a laptop using a power bank can be useful when you are travelling, working away from a power outlet, or experiencing a power outage. However, not every power bank can charge a laptop. You need a power bank with enough power output and the correct connection for your laptop. USB-C Power Delivery (PD) is commonly used for laptops that support USB-C charging.

Check Whether Your Laptop Supports USB-C Charging

First, check whether your laptop can be charged through its USB-C port.

Look for a USB-C charging symbol or check your laptop’s specifications or user manual.

    • Check the USB-C ports
    • Confirm that the laptop supports USB-C charging
    • Check the required charging wattage
    1. Choose a Suitable Power Bank

Use a power bank designed to provide enough power for your laptop.

For USB-C laptops, look for a power bank with USB-C PD output that matches or exceeds your laptop’s required wattage.

    • Choose a USB-C PD power bank
    • Check the power output
    • Choose sufficient battery capacity
    1. Connect the Power Bank to the Laptop

Connect the USB-C cable to the power bank’s USB-C output port and then connect the other end to your laptop’s USB-C charging port.

Make sure you are using a cable capable of handling the required power.

    • Connect the cable to the power bank
    • Connect it to the laptop
    • Check that the laptop indicates charging
    1. Allow the Laptop to Charge

Once connected, allow the power bank to supply power to the laptop.

The charging speed will depend on the power bank’s output, the laptop’s requirements, and whether you are using the laptop while charging.

    • Leave the connection secure
    • Reduce heavy laptop usage if possible
    • Monitor the power bank’s remaining charge
    1. Use an Adapter for Compatible Laptops

If your laptop does not support USB-C charging, you may need a compatible power bank with an AC outlet or a suitable DC output and adapter.

Make sure the voltage, connector, and power requirements match your laptop before connecting it.

    • Check the laptop’s power requirements
    • Use the correct adapter
    • Avoid incompatible voltage or connectors
