An 11-year-old boy died after he was electrocuted by a live power wire that fell on him while he was fetching firewood with his siblings in Siaya County.
The incident occurred on July 12, 2026, in Pap-Kakan Village, Siaya Sub-County.
Police said the victim, a Grade Four pupil at Pap-Kakan Junior School, had gone to a nearby bush with his siblings to collect firewood.
The bush was about 50 metres from their homestead when an electricity pole reportedly broke and a live power wire fell on the boy.
He died at the scene. Police officers and Kenya Power personnel from Siaya, rushed to the scene.
The teams found the boy’s lifeless body lying on the ground and secured the area as investigations began.
Crime Scene Investigation officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police and Kenya Power officials are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the electricity pole and the resulting electrocution.
And a 15-year-old Grade Nine learner died after she was electrocuted while disconnecting an electric coil heater at her home in Navakholo, Kakamega County.
The incident occurred at around 7:50pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in Busangavya Village.
Police identified the deceased as a learner at Sihanikha Comprehensive School.
According to police, the girl was disconnecting an electric coil heater when she accidentally came into contact with electricity and was electrocuted. She died instantly.
Police visited the scene and found her body lying on the floor of the family residence.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
A postmortem examination is expected to establish the cause of death as investigations into the incident continue.
Meanwhile, police in Kimilili, Bungoma County, have arrested a woman in connection with the suspected murder of a 62-year-old man whose body was found beside a maize plantation.
The body of Joel Wafula Kisiang’ani was discovered in Murram area on Wednesday evening, police said.
Officers from Kimilili Police Station rushed to the scene and found the deceased lying on his back without clothes near the maize plantation.
Police said the body had visible injuries and bruises on the neck, head and back, raising suspicion that he had been killed.
A woman was arrested in connection with the death. Her house is located about 30 metres from where the body was found.
