A police officer shot and killed an unidentified man who allegedly threatened to attack him with a panga during a night patrol at Masogo Market, Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu County.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, during a routine patrol by the police.

The officer involved encountered the unidentified man armed with a panga and behaving in a manner that posed an immediate threat to members of the public.

The officer reportedly identified himself as a police officer from a distance and ordered the man to stop, surrender and drop the weapon.

The man allegedly became more aggressive and advanced towards the officer.

A private security officer, who was manning a nearby club, Honolulu, attempted to intervene but was allegedly struck on the left hand with the panga and forced to retreat.

The man then allegedly advanced towards the officer while threatening to cut him. After repeated orders to surrender reportedly failed, the officer drew his Jericho pistol and fired one shot at close range, fatally injuring the man.

Police visited the scene and established the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Crime Scene Investigation officers from Kisumu processed and documented the scene.

The deceased’s body was moved to Ahero Hospital mortuary for preservation pending identification and postmortem examination.

Police are continuing investigations into the incident, including the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
