A man believed to be about 30 years old was found dead near the gate of Nyali Bridge Hospital in Mombasa.
Members of the public reported the discovery to police on Saturday, prompting officers from Mjambere Police Station to visit the scene.
Police found the lifeless body of an unidentified African male adult lying on the ground near the hospital gate.
The man had no visible injuries and appeared to be emaciated, according to police.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was removed and taken to the Coast General Hospital mortuary.
The body is being preserved pending identification and a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police have appealed to anyone who may have information that could help identify the deceased to report to the nearest police station.
Elsewhere, a man was found dead with deep cuts to his neck and right hand in a farm in Kasemeni, Kwale County, in what police are treating as a suspected murder.
The body of Chondo Mangale Ngoka was discovered at about 10.30am on Saturday in a nearby farm in Chigato Sub-location, Kasemeni Location, about 25 kilometres east of Kasemeni Police Post.
The body had deep cuts on the neck and right hand and had also been partially burnt.
DCI officers processed and documented the scene as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing began.
The motive for the killing was yet to be established.
The body was removed and taken to the Kinango Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.
