    Early Life

Priscilla Marie Winans was born on October 8, 1964, in Detroit, Michigan.

She is one of 10 children born to David and Delores Winans, a couple whose family became one of the most important dynasties in gospel music.

The Winans household was deeply religious, and CeCe grew up surrounded by gospel music. She began singing in church at a young age and performed her first solo when she was eight.

Her siblings also pursued music, including brothers Marvin, BeBe and Carvin. The family’s musical environment provided CeCe with an early foundation that would eventually lead to a professional career.

    BeBe and CeCe Winans

CeCe’s professional career took off in the early 1980s when she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, to perform on the television program The PTL Club.

During this period, she began performing with her older brother BeBe. What initially started as part of a larger family musical tradition eventually developed into one of the most successful brother-sister duos in gospel music.

BeBe and CeCe released Lord Lift Us Up in 1984. The album reached No. 20 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.

Their self-titled 1987 album, BeBe & CeCe Winans, expanded their audience, while Heaven, released in 1988, reached No. 1 on the Top Gospel Albums chart.

Their biggest commercial breakthrough came with Different Lifestyles in 1991. The album topped both the Top Gospel Albums and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.

The duo continued releasing music with projects including First Christmas and Relationships. They eventually reunited for the 2009 album Still, which topped the Top Gospel Albums chart.

Their successful singles included “Lost Without You,” “Addictive Love” and “I’ll Take You There,” featuring Mavis Staples.

    Solo Career

CeCe Winans launched her solo career in 1995 with Alone in His Presence.

The album became an important milestone in her career, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums and Top Christian Albums charts. It was also certified Platinum.

Her solo success expanded further in 1996 when she collaborated with Whitney Houston on “Count on Me” for the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack.

The song became a major mainstream success, reaching No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Adult R&B Songs chart.

Winans followed with Everlasting Love in 1998, which achieved Gold certification and topped the gospel album chart.

Her subsequent albums, including Alabaster Box in 1999, CeCe Winans in 2001 and Throne Room in 2003, continued her success and earned Gold certifications.

She later released Songs of Emotional Healing in 2010 and Let Them Fall in Love in 2017.

The latter album also topped the gospel chart and reinforced Winans’ reputation as one of the leading voices in contemporary gospel.

In 2021, she released the live worship album Believe for It. The title track became a major gospel hit, while “Never Lost” also reached the upper portion of the Hot Gospel Songs chart.

    CeCe Winans’ Awards and Recognition

She has won 15 Grammy Awards, along with numerous Stellar and Dove Awards. Her other honors include recognition from the BET Awards, Soul Train Music Awards, NAACP Image Awards and Detroit Music Awards.

In 2007, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Trumpet Awards.

She was inducted into the Nashville Music City Walk of Fame in 2009 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011.

Winans was also inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2015.

Her extensive list of awards has cemented her position as one of the most decorated gospel performers in music history.

    Books and Business Ventures

CeCe Winans has expanded her career beyond recording and performing.

She has authored several books, including On a Positive Note, Throne Room: Ushered Into the Presence of God and Always Sisters: Becoming the Princess You Were Created to Be.

In 1999, she launched PureSprings Gospel, a record label that further expanded her involvement in the music business.

These ventures have provided additional opportunities for Winans to generate income while giving her greater creative influence within the gospel industry.

    Personal Life

CeCe Winans married Alvin Love II on June 23, 1984. The couple have two children, Ashley Rose Love and Alvin Love III.

Family has remained an important part of Winans’ life and career. Her connection to the Winans musical dynasty has continued through multiple generations.

Winans also shared a close friendship with Whitney Houston and served as godmother to Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

Following Houston’s death in 2012, Winans performed “Jesus Loves Me” and “Don’t Cry for Me” at the singer’s funeral.

    CeCe Winans’ Nashville Mansion

Real estate has also contributed to CeCe Winans’ financial profile.

In 1995, she reportedly paid $120,000 for a 1.3-acre property in Nashville, Tennessee. She later built an approximately 8,000-square-foot mansion on the land.

Winans listed the property for $1.2 million in 2010, although the home did not sell at that price.

The property represents another significant asset associated with her long-term wealth.
