    Ruto Mourns Death of Tanzanian President Suluhu’s Husband

    Kenya’s President William Ruto has mourned the death of Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

    Hafidh Ameir’s death was announced on Monday, September 7, 2026, by Tanzania’s Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi.

    Ndejembi said Ameir died at 8am at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, where he had been receiving treatment for a heart condition.

    “It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Mr Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan,” Ndejembi said.

    He conveyed his condolences to President Samia, her family, relatives and friends, as well as the people of Tanzania following the death.

    Ndejembi said funeral arrangements were underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar.

    Ruto Sends Condolences to President Samia

    Following the announcement, President Ruto expressed his condolences to President Samia and the people of Tanzania.

    “I have received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Her Excellency Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania,” Ruto said.

    The Kenyan President said Ameir’s death was a profound loss to President Samia, her family and Tanzania.

    “On behalf of the Government and people of Kenya, the First Lady, my family and on my own behalf, I convey our heartfelt condolences to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania. President Samia has lost a lifelong companion, her children a beloved father, and Tanzania a distinguished son,” Ruto said.

    Ruto said Kenya stood with the people of Tanzania during the period of mourning.

    “Kenya stands with our Tanzanian brothers and sisters in this moment of grief. May Almighty God comfort President Samia and her family, give them strength through this difficult time, and grant Hafidh Ameir Hassan eternal rest,” he said.

    Funeral arrangements for Ameir are expected to continue in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, as Tanzania mourns the death of the President’s husband.
