The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has dismissed a message circulating on social media asking schools to make financial contributions to facilitate teacher recruitment and promotion interviews.
In a statement, TSC said it had become aware of the message alleging that schools were required to contribute money towards the recruitment and promotion exercises.
The Commission clarified that it does not charge teachers or schools any fees for services related to teacher recruitment and promotion.
“The Commission wishes to clarify that no fees are levied for any services provided to teachers. Recruitment and promotion remain core functions of TSC and are conducted in a transparent and accountable manner. These services are fully funded by TSC,” the Commission said.
TSC added that County Directors are provided with adequate resources to facilitate the recruitment and promotion exercises.
The Commission cautioned heads of public basic education institutions against participating in or entertaining unauthorised requests for financial contributions.
“All Heads of public basic education institutions are hereby cautioned against participating in or entertaining such unauthorized engagements,” TSC said.
The warning comes after a message went viral on social media requesting schools to contribute money towards what it described as promotional and recruitment support.
According to the message, schools with Junior School were required to contribute Sh1,000, while those without Junior School were asked to contribute Sh600.
The message indicated that the contributions were required by Friday, September 11, 2026.
TSC, however, said the recruitment and promotion services are funded by the Commission and do not require financial contributions from schools.
