Brandon Starc is an Australian high jumper born on 24 November 1993 in Baulkham Hills, New South Wales.
Standing 1.88 metres tall and weighing around 71 kilograms, he holds the Australian and Oceania high jump records with a personal best of 2.36 metres, achieved in 2018.
A three-time Olympian, he has competed for Australia at the 2016 Rio, 2020 Tokyo, and 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Starc began his athletics journey in Little Athletics, attending Lidcombe Public School and later Hills Sports High School, where he focused seriously on high jump after also playing cricket and football in his youth.
He is coached by Alex Stewart and trains with the Parramatta club.
Siblings
Brandon is the younger brother of Australian international cricketer Mitchell Starc, a prominent left-arm fast bowler who has achieved major success including multiple Cricket World Cup titles.
The brothers grew up in a sporting household in western Sydney and both participated in Little Athletics as children, with Mitchell serving as a major inspiration through his work ethic and dedication.
Brandon also has two sisters, Amanda Starc and Taylah Starc.
The family was raised by their parents, the late Paul Starc and Liz Starc.
Career
Starc’s competitive career began to take shape in his mid-teens.
At the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010, he won silver with a personal best of 2.19 metres at age 16.
He claimed his first senior Australian national title in 2012 and competed at the World Junior Championships that year.

His senior international debut came at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow.
He reached the final at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, becoming the first Australian man to make a World Championships high jump final since 1997.
At the 2016 Rio Olympics he placed 15th.
After overcoming injury setbacks, 2018 marked a breakthrough year: he won Commonwealth Games gold on the Gold Coast with a personal best of 2.32 metres, equalled the Australian record of 2.36 metres in Eberstadt, Germany, and claimed the Diamond League final title in Brussels.
He finished fifth at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 with a strong 2.35-metre clearance and earned silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Starc has consistently reached World Championships finals, including sixth in Doha in 2019 and joint eighth in Budapest in 2023.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics he competed in qualification but did not advance to the final.
He has continued competing at national and international levels, securing additional Australian titles, including a fifth in 2025.
