Mitchell Aaron Starc is an Australian international cricketer born on 30 January 1990 in Baulkham Hills, a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales.

A towering left-arm fast bowler standing at 197 centimetres, Starc is widely regarded as one of the most lethal white-ball bowlers of his generation and a formidable force in Test cricket.

Known for his express pace, swinging yorkers, and ability to deliver under pressure, he has been a mainstay of the Australian attack across all three formats for more than a decade.

He is married to Australian women’s cricket team vice-captain Alyssa Healy, forming one of the most celebrated sporting couples in the country.

    Siblings

Mitchell is the son of Paul Starc and Deborah Starc, and he has a brother named Brandon Starc, who is younger than him.

Brandon is a highly accomplished athlete in his own right, having represented Australia as a high jumper.

He won the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and also claimed silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The two brothers share a close bond and have often spoken about their mutual support, with Brandon frequently attending Mitchell’s matches and Mitchell cheering on Brandon at athletics competitions.

    Career

Starc’s cricketing journey began at a young age, and he made his first-class debut for New South Wales in 2009.

His raw pace and left-arm angle quickly caught the attention of national selectors, and he made his ODI debut for Australia in October 2010 against India.

His Test debut followed in December 2011 against New Zealand at the Gabba, and he went on to make his T20 International debut in September 2012 against Pakistan.

In the early years of his career, Starc was in and out of the Test side as he worked on his consistency and fitness.

However, he gradually established himself as a key member of Australia’s bowling attack.

His breakthrough came during the 2015 Cricket World Cup on home soil, where he finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 22 wickets and was named player of the tournament as Australia lifted the trophy.

Starc’s Test career flourished as he developed into one of the fastest and most feared bowlers in the world.

He formed a devastating partnership with Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon, a quartet that dominated world cricket for years.

His ability to swing the ball at high pace, particularly with the pink ball under lights, made him nearly unplayable in day-night Tests.

He holds the record for the most wickets in day-night Test cricket, including a career-best 6 for 48 against Sri Lanka in Canberra.

In ODI cricket, Starc has been nothing short of phenomenal.

He is one of the fastest bowlers in history to reach 200 ODI wickets, achieving the milestone in just 102 matches.

He was instrumental in Australia’s 2023 Cricket World Cup triumph in India, finishing as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 23 wickets, including a stunning 3 for 34 in the final against India.

Starc has also been a sought-after player in franchise cricket, representing teams such as the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

In 2023, he was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a record fee for a bowler at the time, reflecting his immense value in T20 cricket.

He also played a pivotal role in Australia’s maiden World Test Championship triumph in 2023.

    Accolades

Starc was named the player of the tournament at the 2015 Cricket World Cup after leading Australia to victory with 22 wickets.

He was also the leading wicket-taker at the 2023 Cricket World Cup, becoming only the second bowler in history to take the most wickets in two separate World Cup campaigns.

He won the Allan Border Medal in 2020, Australia’s most prestigious individual cricket award, following an outstanding year across all formats.

He has been named in the ICC ODI Team of the Year on multiple occasions and has received the ICC Men’s Emerging Player of the Year award earlier in his career.

Starc holds several notable records, including the fastest delivery recorded by an Australian bowler, clocking over 160 kilometres per hour.

He is one of only a handful of bowlers to have taken a hat-trick in the Cricket World Cup, achieving the feat against New Zealand in 2015.

He has also been part of three World Cup-winning squads, the 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cups and the 2021 T20 World Cup, along with the 2023 World Test Championship title.
