    Girl dies after rotten electricity pole falls on her in Kakamega

    A six-year-old girl died in a suspected electrocution incident after a rotten electricity pole fell on her in Shitungu Village, Kakamega Central Sub-County, on Thursday evening.

    The incident occurred on September 17, 2026, in Murumba Sublocation, East Butsotso Location, police said.

    According to the police, the deceased was playing with other children when the electricity pole reportedly fell on her. The other children escaped unharmed..

    Police officers and a Kenya Power emergency team visited the scene.

    The scene was processed and documented, while the girl’s body was moved to the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting post-mortem examination.

    The circumstances surrounding the pole’s collapse and the suspected electrocution remain under investigation.

    And police in Murang’a South are investigating the murder of a 57-year-old man who was fatally injured in Kaaga Village, Kimorori.

    Police officers visited Kenol Hospital, where the victim had been rushed, and found his lifeless body on a wheelchair.

    The deceased, identified as Benard Kaibere Muiruri, had deep cuts on his skull and right chin, with blood oozing from the injuries.

    According to preliminary information provided by his wife had called her at around 6:30 p.m. to inform her that he was on his way home.

    While she was preparing supper, she reportedly heard a commotion a few meters from their home. Neighbours later informed her that her husband was lying by the roadside with deep cuts on his head.

    The scene was processed and documented by officers from the Murang’a South Scene of Crime unit. The body was subsequently moved to Montezuma Monalisa Mortuary, where it is awaiting autopsy.

    Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.
