Abrar Ahmed is a Pakistani international cricketer who bowls right-arm leg spin and is known for his mystery variations, including the googly and carrom ball.
Born on 11 September 1998 in Karachi, Sindh, he stands about six feet tall and bats right-handed in the lower order.
An ethnic Pashtun of the Swati tribe, his family originally came from Shinkiari, a village near Mansehra in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, before settling in Karachi.
He is a Hafiz, having memorized the entire Quran at a young age.
Siblings
Abrar is the youngest of eight siblings, consisting of five brothers and three sisters.
His elder brother Shahzad Khan previously played as a fast bowler for National Bank in Pakistan’s domestic circuit and was among the first to recognize Abrar’s talent in tape-ball cricket.
Another brother, Sajid Ahmed, has spoken publicly about Abrar’s childhood passion for the game, including anecdotes of the young Abrar analyzing bowling techniques while watching matches.
The sisters’ names are not widely publicized, and the family has generally kept personal details private.

Career
Ahmed’s professional journey began in domestic cricket.
He made his Twenty20 debut for Karachi Kings in the 2017 Pakistan Super League and later played for teams including Karachi Whites, Sindh, Islamabad United, and Quetta Gladiators.
His first-class debut came on 20 November 2020 for Sindh in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
Strong performances, including leading wicket tallies in domestic competitions, earned him a place in the Pakistan Shaheens side.
He received his first international call-up for the Test series against England in December 2022 and debuted on 9 December at Multan Cricket Stadium.
In that match he took 7 for 114 in the first innings and 4 for 120 in the second.
He later featured in Tests against New Zealand and others, making his T20I debut on 18 April 2024 against New Zealand and his ODI debut on 26 November 2024 against Zimbabwe.
By mid-2026 he had played around 10 Tests, 19 ODIs, and 38 T20Is, taking substantial wickets especially in white-ball cricket, while continuing to feature prominently for Quetta Gladiators in the PSL and briefly for other franchise sides.
He has also dealt with injuries, including a serious back stress fracture early in his career and later sciatica issues.
Accolades
On Test debut against England, Ahmed claimed a ten-wicket match haul, becoming the first Pakistani bowler to do so since 1995 and the thirteenth Pakistani to take a five-wicket haul on debut; he also took a five-wicket haul in the first session of a Test debut.
He followed with another five-wicket haul against New Zealand.
In limited-overs cricket he has produced standout spells such as 4 for 27 against South Africa in an ODI (earning Player of the Match in a series-clinching win) and economical figures like 1 for 8 in four overs during the 2025 Asia Cup against Sri Lanka.
He has been among Pakistan’s leading wicket-takers in T20Is and ODIs since his debuts in those formats, contributed to Pakistan’s Asia Cup runner-up finish in 2025, and earned selection as a key spinner for major tournaments including the 2024 T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy.
Domestically he has recorded multiple five-wicket hauls and high wicket tallies in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and PSL seasons.
